Telemarketers

FTC has issued warnings to consumers: according to reports legit organizations may solicit services and products, yet some of these organizations may be fraudulent. FTC warns us to use caution when receiving "Cold Calls."

How they get your number:
Telemarketers committing fraudulent acts will search through telephone or Internet directories for your number. Telemarketers will search through mail lists, "Sucker lists" etc that include addresses, names, phone numbers, and review directories that record consumers that have lost monies to deceptive companies marketing product sales or prize promotions.

Greedy, ruthless marketers will sell and buy "sucker lists" theorizing that if consumers in the list were immortalized once, thus these consumers are targeted preys.

FTC (Federal Trade Commission) has issued the TSR (Telemarketing Sales Rule), which safeguards consumers from deceiving, abusive sales practices by unruly telemarketers. TSR restricts telemarketers from calling before 8am and after 9pm; additional limits include:

" Upon calling you, telemarketers are obligatory to inform you of their purpose for calling you, i.e. make you aware they are making a sales call.

" Telemarketers must tell you what services or products they are selling prior to giving you the sales catch.

" Telemarketers are obligatory to tell inform you of any prize promotions and to inform you if "NO purchase" or fees are applicable for entry.

The DO NOT CALL REGISTRY is an effortless, free site that helps consumers by protecting them and by condensing telemarketing calls. You can visit the web site at www.donotcall.gov or phone 1-888-382-1222: Registering is easy. You merely type in your phone number(s) and your e-mail. Once you provide the details, you will see a prompt to finish your registration by replying to your e-mail. The e-mail will contain a link for you to complete registry. Upon completion you will see a date (Five Years) from the date you registered, which is when your name will no longer appear in the register.

" If you decide to remove your name from the registry, or your phone number is no longer in service, you will not be listed in the Do not call registry.

" In five years, you will need to regenerate your phone number once more.
" Telemarketers, lying about their services or products are in violation of the law, which includes lying about profitability, earning potentials, liquidity investments, prize specs or promotional prize scheme, etc.

Telemarketers must give you the total fee of any service or good sold, as well telemarketers are obligatory to inform you of any restrictions outlined in their terms of services or products. You have the right to know if the sale is non-refundable or final. Telemarketers are obligatory if promoting prizes, to inform you of your odds at winning. Telemarketers are obligatory to inform you when NO fees apply to enter the contest. Prize promoter sales reps, must tell you if any conditions or restrictions are outlined in the promotion.

If you have not given your verified authorization or express, it is illegal for any telemarketer to withdrawal from your bank account. Regardless of pay method you choose, telemarketers are prohibited from lying to coerce you to make a payment.

You (consumer) are not obligatory to pay recovery room fees, credit repairs, credit agencies (until you take delivery of the product or service) or for "advanced-fee" loans. If you do not request a telemarketer to call you, (and they do call), they have violated the TSR law.
